King Lear

Production design for the play "King Lear" by William Shakespeare. My first response centered around the concept of blindness and an inability to see hard truths. Corrosion and decay became strong themes bringing me towards cold metals and the natural world. I created an indoor setting with looming hovering iron walls and chain curtains, a huge set sculpture inspired by the blood vessels of the human eye, and a flipped field scene to reflect the flipping of imagery in the retina.
