Blasted

Sarah Kane's "Blasted" presented an opportunity to depart from hyperrealistic design to explore suspension of disbelief. I felt the action of the play needed space to breathe and would benefit from a minimalist set, only a few elements that convey the essence of a luxury hotel room. The dramatic shift in the play is echoed by surreal imagery of a slow blast of glass, powerfully frozen in time and heading towards the audience elongating the tension of the moment. A sonic blast breaks the stasis.
